Sunday Sketches

I cannot recall exactly when it was that I started to believe I could not draw... ever since I can remember I have heard myself say so... And then this year, subtly, I started to entertain the idea that maybe I could teach myself how to do rough drawings, nothing too fancy... Where or why did this notion pop in my head? I do not know and have not tried to find out the reason, I am just letting myself enjoy the ride and find my style... I knew I was serious about starting to draw/sketch when over a month ago I got myself a notebook specifically for my drawings...
Even though I've been sketching for a while in my notebook, this is the first time I am actually sharing one of my sketches with the (blogging) world... I tend to draw whimsical faces, shapes, figures as I find them more forgiving and since I have issues with simetry :) I favor drawing half faces, the back of heads and such...

I think I will name her "Timida", which means shy in Spanish as that is how I feel about my drawings/sketches... However, in a way it's liberating to finally share my "artsy" attempts :)
Thank you for stopping by and have a great week~

Self-portraits at The Gallery

Like most mom's I am ALWAYS the one behind the camera! Before my Princess was born, I liked having my picture taken because I was always put together, slim and was continuously told how photogenic I was SO it was a pleasure rather than a pain. However, now that I am a mother things have changed dramatically and I do not mind not being in the photos except when I am asked: Do you have a photo of the two of you together???...
In the last couple of years my Funny Girl has started taking photos of me, most of them get deleted when downloaded, not because she is a bad photographer, but because I do not like the way I look.
For some unknown reason the one below got saved, it surprises me because in addition to the fact that I am sans make-up I am not wearing EARRINGS and in my book that is equal to being naked! :) So here I am in all my naked glory! hahahahaha ~
In order to accept ourselves as we really truly are, we should do this exercise more often - I think!

Flower Twinchie

Something Completely Different....." is a blog that posts a weekly challenge - Congratulations! They are celebrating their first year since going live, may there be many more years of fun challenges. The title of this post is the challenge for this week and in keeping with my reclying theme is weekend, here is my creation:

I first used a piece of cardboard and hand colored it green, I then put a scrap of printed paper I had lefover from another project, added a couple of newsprint flowers (painted with watercolors and outlined with a sharpie) and a lonely butterfly I had laying around. I am happy with the result and just hope it meets the requirements.
Go visit and enjoy the beautiful entries.

C is for Chocolate Colors

Today I am participating for - the first time - in the weekly challenge over at and here is what I came up with:
Except for the textured cardstock I used as background, everything else is recycled paper. The tree trunk I made by using watercolors on a sheet of newsprint and outlined it with a sharpie; the top of the tree is made with a newspaper photo and a magazine add background - all of them in what I think qualifies as the right color family: Chocolate! I am now off to have some :)

The Gallery: Men

This sweet boy is my youngest nephew and my Princess absolutely loves him! He is the brother she does not have and we are both crazy about him; he has the most beautiful brown eyes and cuttest chubby cheeks.
There are other men in our lives, but nobody is as sweet and cute as our little one!
