Today is the anniversary of the beginning of the Mexican Revolution and every year there is a great 3 hr. long parade that I've watched yearly - since Renata was a baby - from the same spot/street, and today it was no different :)
My niece and nephew came along to watch it with us and later on we joined my brother, his fiance and their baby. Here are some photos taken this morning:

It is a tradition for the charros to close to parade and this year it was no exception, here is my handsome cousin all dressed up.

Happy to be back joining Lisa Renata - what a nice name :) with my fav photos this week.
As most of you probably know, on Wednesday it was Dia de Muertos and - like we do every year - we went to the cemetery.

Here is a photo of my Princess and mom eating tamales and drinking atole made by my mom - YUM! There are no people around because it was early, however you can see by Renata's face that the sun is already too bright - and it was hot too!

By 10am it was packed and couldn't get closer to take a better photo of the Marichi band that played during Mass - the singer had a lovely voice and the homily was just beautiful. A beautiful day spent with my those I love the most!

It's been awhile since I've written anything... I don't like that... every week I go over to Friday 5 to eye their questions and I deem them either too difficult, too personal or I'm honest and just tell myself I'm not in the mood to think... Enough of that! Here I am with an entry this week :)

1.What non-food items are in your refrigerator or freezer?
I currently have some US dollars left over from our vacation, at different times I've had documents, tickets, etc.

2.What non-book items are on your bookshelves? Seasonal ornies, decorations - I change it every season/holiday

3.What song or album in your music collection doesn’t fit in with your usual tastes?
Willie Nelson - he doesn't really go with my classical or classic rock cds :)

4.What item in your wardrobe really doesn’t match anything else?
A loud blouse I got at a Christmas exchange at work - yuck!

5.What scar on your body did you receive in the unlikeliest of ways?
I did not plan on having a child, so I guess my C-section scar counts as unlikely, no?

My Creative Space

No, this is not a post about my crafting area, just of what is on my desk! This is my first time participating in Our Creative Spaces fun weekly blog event. I find it very motivating to see what the other participants are working on at the moment - and since I seem to have lost my crafting inspiration (mojo) - maybe something will spark my creativity again!

I decided to work on something productive - in hopes of getting inspired by the colors and textures - and started tracing some tags on an empty cereal box. I'm big on recycling so I decided to put the empty box to good use, I will be using the tags to wrap my lengths of ribbon on them. You see, here in PV ribbon is either expensive or I'm too poor to buy a whole spool of it, so the typical thing to do is buy it by the meter. As you can imagine I have several meters - or bits of some - getting all tangled up in my "ribbon case". Once they are sorted I will post a photo of them looking pretty :)

I recently discovered this blog and the Friday Meme she hosts; this is my first time participating - since it's a photo meme I'm in! :)

This photo was taken just a little while ago, my Princess is playing on the floor next to me - it must be Friday if she's sooo relax! No homework!

When she was little it was a common sight to see her playing at my feet while I was at the computer or crafting but nowadays she is off to do her own thing, so it almost made me teary eye to see her playing at my feet and I ran to get the camera and capture this moment :)

The Gallery - Home

This week at The gallery the theme is "Home" ... Home is a difficult subject - for me - to capture in a photo. Many things are home to me and home is everything! I love staying at home, coming back home after a long day at work or at the end of a vacation; and there are special corners within my home that are particularly special to me.
One of them is my crafting area - which is not ready to shown, another is my bedroom and of course my kitchen.
Since in my "book" love can be tasted, the kitchen is where I prepare "edible" love for my Princess and I. We bake - stove top, but bake nonetheless :), laugh, share, talk, I teach her how to cook and she practices what I have taught her so far...

This is I, my life and everything else: opposites and/or contradictions:

Modern and traditional, cannot have one and not the other!

Even my spoons fall into this category :) - no doubt, my kitchen is home!

Today's question for the above mentioned Meme is: Have you ever travelled by train? If so, tell all about it.
Yes, I have travelled by train on more than one ocasion, in Mexico, the US and Europe; however, the one on Amtrak in the US - it feels like it took place in another life... ??? - stands out as memorable for more than a few reasons.
I went from Central Station in NYC to Burlington in Vermont. I was travelling by myself and I loved it! The scenery was great, the solicitude, the hours rolled by, it seemed, just for me - for my thoughts, for reading, contemplating, etc.
At the time, I was in a rather tumultuos relationship and badly needed the time alone. Also, I was going to attend the wedding - I was one of the bridesmaids - of a former co-worker and good friend and I was looking forward to the one on one time with her during this special time in her life and the best part is that it was at the end of September: FALL in all it's glory! My favorite season and here I was going through all these postcard perfect views! Wonderful trip!
I'm glad I was able to do it as nowadays not even "bathroom" time is "alone" time :)
My next trip by train will be onboard El Chepe - albeit not alone anymore :)

I have to wash my face and start walking/moving otherwise I'll dose off!
2.What’s most likely to cause you a prolonged period of not enough sleep?
Worry - financial or health related issues - usually :(
3.When you’re going through a prolonged period of not enough sleep, what parts of your daily routine are likely to change, and how?
I become slower - especially in the mornings and it takes me twice as long to get through my usual rutine.
4.Who in your life seems regularly to have not enough sleep?
One of my sisters... she always seems to be running on low in the sleep dept.5.In what ways does your personality change when you go through a prolonged period of not enough sleep?
I become very moody, intolerant and the little patience I usually have is non-existant :( Ugly!

Writer's Workshop

Kat's weekly prompts have arrived in my in-box, as they do every week and it was a matter of "It's now or never" because I've always wanted to participate and either I did not have the time or inspiration needed; today, however, one of the prompts caught my eye: 2.) Write about a time you disappointed yourself. Hahaha! There are too many! How do I pick just one??!?!?!?! Oh, my!
Anyway, here I go...

I can still remember vividly this one time when I dissappointed myself by cutting a romantic vacation - with my impossible love - short just because I was not sure - at the time - I wanted to commit to a relationship that would surely involve eventually moving to Central America. You see, I cannot handle the heat! As it is I have a very hard time dealing with the temperatures here (Puerto Vallarta) let alone moving to a country that only has two seasons: Wet and Dry (but terribly hot nontheless) and they happen to call the wet season Winter - not MY kind of winter!
Needless to say, due to my abrupt decision the relationship ended even before it really got started and to this day I regret that as he will be forever and ever my impossible love...

This year during our summer vacation we were lucky enough to visit a friend's ranch and while there saw that the cow he recently bought came with a gift: she had a calf shortly after she was purchased!
My daughter had never had such an up-close and personal encounter with an animal this size (and his mother too!)... here she is tentatively touching Guapo's nose - Guapo means handsome in Spanish - an experience my little one will remember for a long time :)

Attic 24 (England) Lucy's blog makes me want to crochet Granny Squares like crazy or any of the other beauties she makes! She is also very generous and shares many tutorials on the beautiful things she makes.
Bugs and Fishes (UK) Laura's is my to go blog when I want some felt eye candy. I love working with felt and Laura is an inspiration and I admire her talent. She also has free tutorials available in her blog and an etsy shop in case you fall in love with her creations and decide you must have some of them :)

I am very happy to report that two of the wishes I've wished for have come true - in most unexpected ways - however, I am very grateful for them: A vacation in the US - we'll be going to San Diego in July, YEAH!!! And a new place to live - thank you God! and my dear friend Jackie who kept her fingers crossed for us and sent us good thoughts :) May all your wishes come true, you more than deserve it!
This week I will not post any wishes, I just want to verbalize my gratitude to the universe for the wishes granted - I consider myself a lucky girt!

I live in a VERY tropical city and there are many things I love about it - among which nature in general ranks at the very top of my list :) and trees in particular are something I totally love!

Our home is located very close to the river and there was a time when I had a job so close to our place that I walked to work daily! and not only that but I was so lucky my daily walk to work was along the river!!!

The rainy season is during the summer and the photo above shows the river with muddy water - typical after an all night long rainstorm, some beautiful trees and green everywhere!!!

Sunday Scribblings # 253 - Story

One of the prompts this week - and the one I am using tonight - is: What is your story. Good grief! Why is it so hard to talk about myself at times?

My story... my story is that I never dreamed I would be where I am right now, and it is a good and a bad thing at the same time - contradictions!

For the longest time I thought I was going to be married by a certain age, have two kids by another age, etc. When I saw that it was not happening my story changed and I saw myself happy with a partner, loving my job, seeing the world, having a great life...

One thing is for certain, I never wanted to be a single mom, a struggling single mother of one beautiful Princess... but I am, and I love being a mom to my sweet girl, and that is the part that is good... that is the part that I would never change.

How did I get here? I don't know... All I know is that now that I have her I don't have the money, the time, the energy... the partner... she deserves and I so badly wish I could give her...

I try, I do my best and I guess that is all I can do, but of course I want to give her more... that is my current struggle, that is my story: It is bad that I am lacking so many things I used to have, it is good that she is in my life :)

Faith is what sustains me, all I can do now is keep on praying for more balance in all aspects of our lives... she does not know what I had before but I do...

For the time being I try to focus on what we do have: our time together, health, laughter, love, family and friends... as for the rest, I try to take one day at a time and hope and pray for better days :)

TGIF!!! And to celebrate the beginning of a long holiday weekend (here in Mexico) here is my take on this week's meme:

1.Who’s not as funny as he or she thinks? The neighbor who must whistle at all times, as loud as he can, regardless of what time it is.

2.What’s not as big a deal as everyone else seems to think? Having the latest gadget/phone/game.

3.What’s something people aren’t concerned enough about? Education, I think is a big issue.

4.What’s something in the grocery store that’s underrated? Tea! :)

5.What do you pay too much attention to? My busy life, if I cannot change things I should just relax and take one day at a time - easier said than done!

Hola and welcome to my blog! I am very excited to be participating in the OWOH event for the second time.
My name is Sarita, a single mother of a beautiful Princess who will turn 6 next month - time flies! A former translator, now I'm an English teacher at a private school, a bookworm, hoarder of all things crafty/artsy and a gypsy at heart as in my "pre-daughter" life I used to roam the world and now I dream of the day I can take my daughter on world-exploring trips... as soon as money allows, hahaha.
I consider myself eclectic in my taste and love of all handmade crafts/art. We try to recycle/upcycle as much as possible, craft with paper and fabric - especially felt, and love vintage/shabby chic stuff among many other things :)
We love to cook, dance, sunsets, plants, family, friends, and if we had the space we would have tons of pets. I love the written word and therefore enjoy penpals very much. I want my daughter to enjoy "snail" mail so I sign "us" up for swaps and card exchanges as often as possible.

This is the view from the window in my Mom's kitchen, I love standing there and looking out early in the morning, after a rainstorm or at dusk - I just love the mountains that surround our town! Especially during the rainy season

- now- when everything is lush and green... worth the humidity we endure :)

In this photo the sky and the mist from the mountain are almost the same greyish color, love it!
